Hallylu star So Ji-sub will receive an award from the Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) for promoting Korean culture, according to his agency 51K on Thursday.

The actor will receive the special achievement award alongside Korean figure skater Kim Yuna at the 2011 Korea Tourism Awards ceremony to be held at the National Museum of Korea later today.

So's recognition comes for his activities in promoting Korea's eastern region of the Gangwon Province which was inspired by his photo essay titled "The Journey of So Ji-sub."

The Korea Tourism Awards first began last year and the KTO hands out awards to selected individual or groups that have helped promote Korean culture overseas. Last year's winner of the special achievement award was given to actor Bae Yong-joon.

Known as one of the most popular actors in Korea, So made his debut in 1996 and has since appeared in a number of TV dramas and movies. He rose to stardom in Korea and throughout Asia through his roles in "Glass Slipper," "I'm Sorry, I Love You" and "Cain and Abel."

He is currently playing the role of Chul-min in the romantic drama "Only You" alongside actress Han Hyo-joo.
