Actress Choi Jung-won has been cast as the female lead in an upcoming sports film, informed her agency Wellmade STARM on Tuesday.

According to a press release by Wellmade STARM today, actress Choi who is returning to the big screen for the first time in three years, will star in a baseball movie tentatively titled “The Perfect Game,” also starring actors Cho Seung-woo and Yang Dong-geun.


In the film which revisits one of the most exciting baseball matches in Korean history in the summer of 1987, Choi will play the sport journalist who describes the game and rivalry between Choi Dong-won of Haitai Tigers which will be played by Cho and Sun Dong-ryeol of Lotte Giants, which will be played by Yang.

The film, helmed by director Park Hee-gon, is expected to crank in around later this month and premiere at the end of this year.


Choi, who debuted in 2001 rose to stardom through TV series “Famous Princesses” (KBS, 2006) and has since appeared in many television dramas including "The King and I" (SBS, 2007), "The Kingdom of The Winds" (KBS2, 2008), and “Wish Upon A Star.”


Seeking to extend her career in China, she signed a contract to endorse the country’s cosmetics brand Carslan in late March and opened a Weibo account, the Chinese version of Twitter which attracted 10,000 followers in the shortest time period for a Hallyu star.


Meanwhile, Choi is also active as a promotional ambassador to Korea’s southern island of Jeju.
