Kang Ji-young of girl group KARA has been set to make her local acting debut by starring in what could be the biggest blockbuster TV series next year. The show’s production company Taewon Entertainment said in a press release Monday that Kang has signed on to play one of the female leads in the sequel to KBS’ mega-hit drama “IRIS” (2009).In the blockbuster set to hit the airwaves next February, Kang will take the role of Song Chae-ran, an NSS [the drama's made-up organization for National Security Agency] agent.Though the singer has been busy promoting KARA’s latest hit tune “PANDORA,” she has determined to join the sequel with her strong will for acting, the officials explained in the statement. The action-packed series is already creating some buzz with the ensemble cast of big names here, such as Jang Hyuk, Kim Seung-woo, Kim Min-jong, Lee Da-hae and MBLAQ’s Lee Joon. Co-produced by directors Pyo Min-soo and Kim Tae-hoon, the sequel will be written by scenarist Jo Kyu-won of famed blockbusters “IRIS” and “Poseidon” (KBS2, 2011).“IRIS 2” is set to crank in October, the officials added.※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
