Korean girl group KARA has set another record with their second Japanese album. On Tuesday, the website for Japan's prestigious Oricon chart showed that KARA topped its weekly album chart after selling about 275,000 copies of their second full-length Japanese album "Super Girl" which went on sale last Wednesday. This is a new record for an album's first week's sales which was previously held by Girls' Generation with their first Japanese release "GIRL'S GENERATION" which sold 232,000 copies.Meanwhile, KARA had topped Oricon's weekly singles chart with their third Japanese single "JET COASTER LOVE" after moving 123,000 editions in just a week since its release in April. This makes KARA the first foreign female group in Oricon's 30-year history, following Irish female band The Nolans, to have placed atop both the weekly singles and album chart. "Super Girl," produced in three editions, contains their hit Japanese songs such as "Jet Coaster Love," "GO GO SUMMER!" and "Winter Magic" as well as tracks from their third full-length album in Korea. KARA, composed of members Gu Hara, Han Seung-yeon, Park Gyu-lee, Kang Ji-young and Nicole, is currently one of the most successful Korean girl groups to break into the Japanese market. The girls were recently nominated for the grand prize for their song "GO GO SUMMER!" at the upcoming 53rd Japan Record Awards which will air on TBS on December 30. ※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
