Girls' Generation races up Apple's iTune chart with new song

K-pop queens Girls' Generation has raced up to the top spot on Apple's iTunes chart in Japan with their new Japanese single. Girls' Generation's third Japanese single "MR. TAXI," which went on sale in the country yesterday, ranked in at No. 1 under Apple iTunes' top songs chart in Japan, while the music video for the Japanese version of "Run Devil Run" rose to the top spot on the music video chart, according to Apple's iTunes as of April 28. "MR. TAXI" also became the most-downloaded ringtone in the country, entering Japan's Recochoku mobile chart in first place. Meanwhile, the album which consist of two songs including “MR. TAXI” which is the group’s first original single in Japanese and “Run Devil Run” one of the group’s previous hits from Korea, landed at No. 2 on Japan's prestigious Oricon daily chart. The album has been produced in three different editions: a regular edition, a limited period edition including a DVD and a deluxe first press edition containing a DVD, photobook and picture cards. The group is now preparing for a nationwide tour in Japan where they will hold 10 concerts in six cities starting with Osaka on May 31. Girls' Generation, one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia, made their debut in Korea in 2007 under SM Entertainment with their first album "Into the New World" and has since produced a several hit songs including "Gee," "Genie" and "Oh!" The group then debuted in Japan in August of last year and have enjoyed much success there as well, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No. 1 on the Oricon chart and wining several gold disc status for their albums which sold over 100,000 copies including their first and second album “Genie” “Gee” and DVD “少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation.” ※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
