This year, the city plans to invest a total budget of 1.56 billion won to install 250 crime prevention CCTV cameras in 61 areas vulnerable to crime. The city completed the design phase in February and will begin construction in March, with installation scheduled to be completed by June.
This project is being focused on areas where citizens have requested CCTV installation. The city conducted an on-site survey of all 137 locations where such requests were received and selected target sites using an evaluation method that distinguishes between urban and non-urban areas. In addition, both the city government and the police participated in the evaluation process to comprehensively analyze crime vulnerability and the necessity of installation.
By region, installation will focus on a total of 50 zones, including 25 urban areas such as parks, residential and commercial clusters, and intersections, as well as 25 non-urban areas such as village entrances and remote alleyways. In addition, the project will include eight sites selected through the resident participatory budget program, as well as three locations for the creation of safe zones on children's school routes.
The installed crime prevention CCTV cameras will be integrated with the unified control center and operated under a 24-hour real-time integrated monitoring system. Furthermore, emergency bells will be installed in certain areas, such as elementary school routes and parks, to enable a swift response in emergency situations.
A Paju City official stated, "Expanding crime prevention closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) plays an important role not only in preventing crime but also in enabling rapid response and supporting follow-up investigations when incidents occur. We will continue to promote citizen-centered safety policies to further reduce blind spots in crime."
Meanwhile, through the "CCTV Reinforcement Project for Vulnerable Areas," Paju City has been installing an average of over 500 crime prevention CCTV cameras annually since 2022, with the goal of installing 2,400 cameras by June 2026. The city is expected to achieve this goal within this year.
