Yangpyeong County (Governor Jeon Jinseon) successfully hosted the "1st Yangpyeong County Baseball Softball Association President's National Middle School Stove League Baseball Tournament" over six days from February 22 to 27 at Gangsang Sports Park Baseball Field and Gaegun Leisure Sports Park Baseball Field. This tournament was a national event aimed at middle school elite baseball teams. Last year, it was held in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and for the 2026 edition, Yangpyeong County successfully secured hosting rights. A total of 16 middle school baseball teams nationwide, comprising 240 players, participated, making it a highly successful event. Nine teams from Seoul, four teams from Gyeonggi Province (including Danwol Middle School and Gaegun Middle School from Yangpyeong County), two teams from Gangwon Province, and one team from Jeonbuk competed fiercely over a schedule of three days of preliminary rounds and three days of knockout rounds.
The tournament was organized to assess the results of winter training for middle school players during the off-season and to discover and foster promising talents. In addition, with more than 500 participants, including players, parents, and staff, staying for an extended period, the event is recognized as a stay-type sports event expected to boost the local economy and stimulate consumption in the region.
Notably, Danwol Middle School, the host school's team, won the championship, demonstrating the competitiveness of local youth baseball on the national stage. After losing their opening game in the preliminaries, Danwol Middle School advanced to the finals on the strength of stable pitching and defense, ultimately defeating Deoksu Middle School 15-9 in the final to become the inaugural champions. The Most Valuable Player award went to Lee Juwon of Danwol Middle School, recognizing his outstanding contribution to the team’s victory.
Through this event, Yangpyeong County actively promoted its excellent baseball infrastructure in the Gangsang and Gaegun areas, while also contributing to the expansion of youth sports support and the strengthening of grassroots sports facilities. In particular, the victory of a local school team in a national tournament is seen as tangible evidence of the effectiveness of Yangpyeong County's youth sports support policies.
Jeon Jinseon, Governor of Yangpyeong County, stated, "By hosting a national Stove League tournament, Yangpyeong County has once again demonstrated itself as a city with a strong commitment to nurturing youth baseball and well-developed sports infrastructure. We will continue to support the discovery of local talent and the revitalization of school sports in the future."
This tournament was sponsored by Yangpyeong County and organized by the Yangpyeong County Sports Council and the Yangpyeong County Baseball Softball Association. The county plans to further strengthen its status as a 'sports city' by expanding the attraction of national and regional sports events for youth going forward.
