32 Trainees Selected from Inside and Outside the City
Advancing as the Nation’s Only Specialized Subtropical Agriculture Training Institution
On March 3, Yeongcheon City held the opening ceremony for the '2026 Subtropical Crop Startup Training Program' at the subtropical smart farm complex located in Banjeong-ri, Buk-an-myeon, and officially launched its full-scale training to foster professional farmers specializing in subtropical crops.
This program was prepared not only as a local agricultural education initiative but also to further solidify its status as the nation's one and only specialized educational institution leading subtropical agriculture across Korea.
The training program, which will run for nine months starting in March, is divided into a basic course (24 participants) and an advanced course (8 participants) according to the trainees' proficiency, thereby enhancing its expertise.
Notably, this year the selection scope was expanded to include not only residents of Yeongcheon but also those living outside the city, attracting aspiring farmers from all over the country eager to learn Yeongcheon’s advanced subtropical cultivation techniques.
The trainees attending the opening ceremony ranged in age from their 20s to their 60s and demonstrated strong enthusiasm for subtropical agriculture, an emerging food industry of the future in response to climate change.
Choi Jaeyeol, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "We will strive to ensure that trainees can realize their dreams of successful startups through systematic training, and make Yeongcheon the standard for subtropical agriculture nationwide."
Meanwhile, Yeongcheon City's subtropical smart farm complex is equipped with four subtropical greenhouses, a research and management building, and practice-oriented rental greenhouses across an area of 39,531 square meters, providing optimal infrastructure for both theoretical and practical training.
