From This Month: One Medical Center, Four-Hospital System
Kyung Hee Medical Center will transition to a single medical center system. The name will be changed from "Kyung Hee University Medical Center" to "Kyung Hee Medical Center," and the organization will be restructured under one medical center with four hospitals.
Kyung Hee Medical Center announced on March 3 that this decision was made by the Board of Directors of Kyung Hee Academy Foundation. Previously, under one medical center, there were two medical institutions and six hospitals. With this reorganization, four hospitals-Kyung Hee University Hospital, Kangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital, Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital, and Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital-will be grouped together under a single medical center system.
The Kangdong Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital and Kangdong Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital will maintain their current status as training hospitals and educational systems under Kangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital.
The medical center will consolidate shared departments around the central administrative body. The plan is to standardize department names and human resources/position systems, which previously differed by hospital, in order to simplify the decision-making structure.
While maintaining the specialties of each hospital, management responsibility units will be clearly defined. The functions of the medical, dental, and Korean medicine hospitals will be reestablished to strengthen cooperation in clinical care and research. Educational and collaboration programs aimed at integrating organizational culture will also be implemented.
As a tertiary general hospital, Kyung Hee Medical Center will enhance its capabilities in treating severe, rare, and intractable diseases. The plan is to reinforce critical care infrastructure and reorganize clinical structures to strengthen its role within the healthcare delivery system. Fulfilling public responsibilities has been emphasized as a core value.
Starting in 2026, the medical center plans to announce a five-year development plan for its future growth. Key initiatives include improving the clinical environment through spatial innovation and establishing an AI-based smart hospital system.
Currently, a dedicated task force is driving the digital transformation based on electronic medical records. The system is being upgraded to expand mobile clinical environments and enhance the accuracy and usability of medical data. An integrated management system aimed at improving patient safety and resource operation efficiency will also be introduced in phases.
Oh Joohyung, President of Kyung Hee Medical Center, stated, "2026 marks the 55th anniversary of our founding and the 20th anniversary of Kangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital. The transition to a single governance structure will be a turning point for responsible management."
