Kim Sewoong Receives ‘Brave Seo-gu Citizen Award’ for Role in Capturing Robbery Suspect
Kang Soonja and Kim Haeran Recognized as Contributors to District Development for Acts of Community Service

On March 3, Seo-gu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City awarded commendations to individuals who contributed to community safety and development at the regular commendation ceremony held at the Deulbul Hall of Seo-gu Office.
On this day, Seo-gu presented the ‘Brave Seo-gu Citizen Award’ to Kim Sewoong, who witnessed an armed robbery and played a decisive role in capturing the suspect.
During the robbery incident that occurred in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu, in February, Kim chased after the suspect and provided the police with accurate details about the suspect’s direction of escape and physical characteristics, which enabled the police to make a swift arrest. Although he was injured during the pursuit, he calmly described the situation and actively cooperated with the investigation.
Kim lives with visual impairment and other effects from a past accident. Seo-gu highly praised his courage and sense of civic duty, awarding him the commendation and announcing plans to work with relevant agencies to explore support measures that will help establish a foundation for his independence.
Additionally, Seo-gu selected Kang Soonja, President of the Seo-gu Branch of the Korea Beauty Association, and Kim Haeran, CEO of Okgwa Hanwoo Village, as contributors to the district’s development.
President Kang has consistently provided hairdressing volunteer services to nursing home residents and vulnerable groups through the ‘Sound of Love Scissors’ volunteer group.
CEO Kim has contributed to fostering a culture of sharing in the community by being an active member of Seo-gu Honors, a group of major donors in Seo-gu, as well as by supporting holiday donations, providing essential daily necessities, and participating in volunteer activities as a probation committee member.
Seo-gu District Mayor Lee Ikang said, “The courage to put the community first even in emergencies, as well as the steadfast commitment to sharing and volunteering, are the true strengths of our local community,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a warm community where we protect and care for one another.”
