Pledging to Strengthen On-site Safety Capabilities
On March 3, Changwon Special City held an appointment ceremony for newly appointed firefighters at the Citizens' Hall.
A total of 26 new firefighters were appointed: 17 general firefighters, 7 emergency medical technicians, 1 graduate from a firefighting-related department, and 1 fireboat engineer.
After receiving their appointment certificates, the representative of the newly appointed firefighters pledged, "With pride and a sense of duty as firefighters, we will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of citizens."
The newly appointed firefighters passed the recruitment exam last year and completed 24 weeks of foundational and on-site training (firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services) at the Gwangju Fire Academy, gaining the essential knowledge and practical skills required for their duties.
The city especially expects that this addition of new personnel will enhance the response capabilities of 119 emergency services, strengthen initial response to disaster scenes, and expand safety services in vulnerable areas.
Jang Kumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, "I sincerely congratulate all the newly appointed firefighters on your appointment," and added, "At the scene, adhering to the basics and principles is directly connected to saving lives. Please become firefighters trusted by citizens through continuous training and self-development."
