Jeonju City announced that it will expand its senior denture program to include implant support starting this year, in order to help restore oral function for low-income elderly individuals who experience difficulties eating due to missing teeth.
Until now, Jeonju City has focused on providing dentures through this program. However, as consultations and support requests have continued to come in from seniors for whom implant treatment is more suitable depending on their oral condition, the city has decided to expand the program.
The program is available to medical aid recipients and individuals eligible for reduced copayments living in Jeonju who are aged 65 or older. Candidates are selected through consultations and initial oral examinations at public health centers. After selection, beneficiaries receive treatment at affiliated dental medical institutions.
Jeonju City provides financial support for the out-of-pocket costs of both dentures and implants. For implants, up to two per person can be supported. However, dentures and implants cannot be supported simultaneously for the same individual.
Those interested can visit their local neighborhood community center in person or contact the Oral Health Center at Jeonju City Public Health Center or the Oral Health Center at Deokjin Public Health Center for more information.
The head of Jeonju City Public Health Center stated, "We expect that this program will allow seniors to choose treatment that is appropriate for their oral condition," adding, "We will continue to strengthen oral health support for seniors in vulnerable groups in the future."
