Enhancing Residential Stability and Living Standards
On February 26, 2026, Gimcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province signed a consignment agreement with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) for the 2026 Housing Benefit (Repair and Maintenance Benefit) Support Project aimed at improving the residential environment for low-income households.
This project is carried out annually in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Gimcheon City will provide a total of 800 million won (80% from the national government, 10% from the provincial government, and 10% from the city government), while the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters of LH will carry out the construction in accordance with the annual repair plan. The final beneficiaries will be selected through consultation between Gimcheon City and LH. Through this initiative, the residential stability and living conditions of vulnerable groups are expected to improve.
The Repair and Maintenance Benefit Support Project targets residents receiving housing benefits whose income is at or below 48% of the median income and who own and occupy their homes. The scope of the repairs-minor, moderate, or major-is determined by comprehensively considering factors such as household size, recognized income, housing deterioration, and urgency, thereby supporting both the repair and renovation of homes.
Eligible beneficiaries who wish to apply for support can visit their local township, town, or neighborhood administrative welfare center, or apply online through the 'Bokjiro' welfare portal.
A city official stated, "Improving the residential environment is a core task for safeguarding the foundation of citizens' lives. Based on close cooperation with LH, we will do our utmost to successfully implement this year's project so that citizens can live in safer and more pleasant environments."
The city also plans to actively develop sustainable housing welfare policies that go beyond supporting vulnerable groups and include future generations such as newlyweds.
