Chungnam Province will invest 2.7 billion won this year to conduct a precise computerization of underground facility information for a total of 229.25 km of roads and water and sewage pipelines, in an effort to prevent underground facility safety accidents such as ground subsidence.
According to the province on March 3, the project will target seven cities and counties: Asan, Dangjin, Geumsan, Buyeo, Seocheon, Yesan, and Taean. The scope covers 5 km of roads, 164.01 km of water supply pipelines, and 60.24 km of sewage pipelines, totaling 229.25 km. The total project cost is 2.7 billion won, which includes funding from the national government, the province, and the municipalities.
The province will directly conduct surveys and investigations on data previously built by simply transferring existing drawings, thereby improving the accuracy of the database.
In the counties, where no database currently exists, the province will newly survey and build information on pipeline depth, location, and attributes, focusing on towns and townships.
The information collected will undergo public surveying performance review before being uploaded to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Underground Information Utilization System.' In the future, it will be used as basic data when granting road excavation permits, helping to prevent ground subsidence and major accidents caused by indiscriminate excavation.
Im Taekbin, Head of the Land Management Division at Chungnam Province, stated, "We will systematically digitalize underground facility information to reduce safety blind spots," adding, "We aim to create a living environment where residents can feel safe."
