On March 3, Seoul Asan Medical Center announced that it had signed a "business agreement to promote medical AI research" with UNIST at the Grand Conference Room of the East Building. The signing ceremony was attended by hospital president Park Seungil, UNIST president Chong Rae Park, and other officials from both organizations, who discussed future cooperation plans.

This agreement was established to combine Seoul Asan Medical Center’s extensive clinical experience and high-quality medical data with UNIST’s high-performance AI computing infrastructure and data science capabilities, with the goal of developing next-generation medical AI solutions and creating an integrated data utilization environment.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will cooperate in various areas, including: jointly building and operating data infrastructure for medical AI research; forming a joint data research steering committee; concluding comprehensive joint contracts regarding data use and intellectual property (IP); granting researchers mutual priority access to infrastructure; jointly bidding for national projects; and co-hosting academic conferences and symposiums.

Seoul Asan Medical Center will open its in-hospital research resources and medical data to UNIST researchers, provide a dedicated VPN network for secure research, and offer pilot GPU resources for initial model validation and exploration. UNIST will support Seoul Asan Medical Center researchers with storage and processing systems for large-scale medical data analysis, as well as large-capacity GPU resources for training and developing large-scale AI models. In the future, they plan to gradually expand the scope to include next-generation computing technologies such as quantum computing.

Park Seungil, President of Seoul Asan Medical Center, stated, "This agreement will serve as a driving force for innovation in the medical field by combining Seoul Asan Medical Center's world-class clinical data with UNIST's cutting-edge AI technology. We will strive to successfully integrate next-generation medical AI solutions into clinical practice to provide more precise and safer personalized medical services to critically ill patients."

Chong Rae Park, President of UNIST, commented, "Convergent research that combines AI and biomedical capabilities will be an important foundation for the advancement of future precision medicine. By linking the basic science, data science, and computing technologies accumulated by the UNIST Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering and our bio-AI researchers with Seoul Asan Medical Center’s clinical expertise, we will achieve tangible results."
