Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on March 3 that it will provide entrance congratulatory allowances to new elementary school students for the 2026 academic year. As entering elementary school marks an important new beginning for children, this initiative is designed to ease the educational expenses of parents and to support children as they take their first energetic steps.
This year, for the first time, the city has introduced online applications through the Government24 platform to further enhance convenience for citizens. This runs in parallel with the traditional in-person application method, allowing parents to apply easily at any time and from any location.
Eligible recipients are new students who are registered residents of Dongducheon City as of March 3, 2026, and who are entering elementary school. Each recipient will receive an allowance of 100,000 won, which will be provided as local currency. The application period runs from March 3 to September 2, 2026, and payments will be made sequentially within one month after application confirmation.
Online applications can be submitted by searching for "Dongducheon City Entrance Congratulatory Allowance" on the Government24 website or mobile app. In-person applications can be made at the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s district of residence.
Park Hyungdeok, Mayor of Dongducheon, stated, "I hope that the entrance congratulatory allowance brings excitement to the children and provides tangible support to parents," adding, "With the introduction of online applications via Government24, we will offer even more convenient administrative services."
Meanwhile, Dongducheon City continues to prioritize education as its top municipal value and is steadily expanding various educational support policies.
