Gangdong-gu to Provide Study Cafe and Reading Room Fees for Low-Income High School Students

For Students from Low-Income, Lower-Income, and Single-Parent Families
Up to 200,000 Won Reimbursement Per Year

Starting this month, Gangdong-gu in Seoul (District Mayor: Lee Soohee) will provide financial support for study cafe and reading room usage fees to local high school students in need of economic assistance. Gangdong-gu is the first district among Seoul's autonomous districts to implement such a program.

Although it has become common for students to use study cafes and reading rooms, the cost remains a considerable burden. Gangdong-gu introduced this initiative to ensure that differences in learning environments do not arise based on students' economic circumstances.

The support is available to high school students who, as of the application date, reside in Gangdong-gu and are beneficiaries of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program, part of the lower-income class, or from single-parent families. The district will reimburse actual usage fees, providing up to 100,000 won per person per month, with a maximum of 200,000 won per year.

Applications can be submitted by visiting the relevant community service center or by emailing the application form and payment receipts for the current year to shbaek5142@gangdong.go.kr. After eligibility is reviewed, the support funds will be deposited into the applicant's account on the 10th of each month.

The program will operate within the allocated budget and may end early if the budget is exhausted. For more detailed information, visit the Gangdong-gu Office website or contact the Department of Children and Youth at 02-3425-5773.

Lee Soohee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "This program is an investment in the future, helping young people nurture their dreams in a stable learning environment," adding, "We will continue to develop various policies to bridge educational gaps and support students' academic growth."
