18-Hole Park Golf Course and Walking Trail Created
Reborn as a Community-Centered Wellness Space
Idle railway land that had long been neglected is being transformed into a space for citizens’ health and leisure. The city of Sacheon in South Gyeongsang Province announced on March 3 that the ‘Kunmyung Wellness Park’ project, being developed at 521 Bonggye-ri, Kunmyung-myeon, is entering its final stage.
A place once traversed by trains is now being reborn as a complex wellness space where residents can walk, exercise, and share daily life with one another.
This project began in earnest after being selected for the 2023 idle railway land utilization initiative. Following administrative procedures such as detailed design and environmental impact assessment, construction commenced in March 2025, and the current progress rate has reached 96%. The city plans to complete construction by the end of March 2026, conduct trial operations in June, and officially open the park afterward.

The Kunmyung Wellness Park, with a total project cost of 3.7 billion won, is being built on a total area of 44,654 square meters (construction area: 24,560 square meters). Its core facility is a park golf course with two courses and 18 holes.
The course is comprised of Course 1 (660 meters, par 33) and Course 2 (670 meters, par 33), with hole lengths ranging from the 40-meter range to 140 meters, accommodating both beginners and experienced players.
By expanding park golf infrastructure, which has seen growing demand especially among seniors, the project is expected to help improve the health and promote leisure activities of local elderly residents.
Additionally, the park will feature two clubhouses, three mobile restrooms, one management office, a parking lot with 52 spaces, an 0.8-kilometer walking trail, outdoor exercise equipment, and rest facilities. The design goes beyond simple sports facilities, aiming to function as a community-centered complex space that anyone can easily visit in their daily lives.
A city official stated, “Since the park is located close to downtown, it will become a health and healing space accessible to all citizens without burden. We will continue to actively identify and utilize idle spaces to enhance the quality of life for our residents through urban regeneration projects.”
