Improving Air Quality and Achieving Carbon Neutrality
Distribution of 1,756 Electric Vehicles
Supply of 95 Hydrogen Vehicles
Up to 350 Million KRW Subsidy for Buses
On February 3, the city of Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, announced that it will invest 43.7 billion KRW to launch a full-scale project to promote the adoption of electric and hydrogen vehicles, aiming to improve air quality and achieve carbon neutrality.
This year, the city plans to distribute a total of 1,756 electric vehicles (1,230 in the first half and 526 in the second half), which is an increase of approximately 30% compared to the previous year. Applications can be submitted through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Website starting at 10:00 a.m. on February 4, and the program may close early if the budget is exhausted.
The amount of subsidies for electric vehicles varies by vehicle type: passenger cars from 2.21 million to 13.15 million KRW, trucks from 4.9 million to 22.77 million KRW, and vans from 19.12 million to 131.69 million KRW. Additional subsidies are available for taxis, low-income households, first-time young car buyers, families with multiple children, and small business owners.
Notably, starting this year, individuals who replace their internal combustion engine vehicles (excluding hybrids) with electric vehicles (passenger or truck) after owning them for more than three years and then selling or scrapping them can receive an additional conversion incentive of up to 1.3 million KRW. This serves as an incentive to promote the transition to eco-friendly vehicles.
The city also plans to supply a total of 95 hydrogen vehicles, with fixed subsidies of 32.5 million KRW for passenger cars, 300 million KRW for low-floor buses, and 350 million KRW for high-floor buses. Applications have been accepted through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Website since January 21.
Eligibility is limited to individuals, sole proprietors, corporations, organizations, and public institutions that have maintained a registered address in Gumi for at least three consecutive months as of the application date and are purchasing a new electric or hydrogen vehicle. After signing a purchase contract with a dealership and submitting the application, recipients are selected in the order of vehicle delivery and registration.
Details about subsidized vehicles and subsidy amounts by vehicle type can be found on the Gumi City Hall website under Notices & Announcements or on the Climate Energy Environment Division's Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
