Government Expands Inter-Ministerial Task Force on Coupang Incident Under Deputy Prime Minister of Science and ICT

Ministry of Science and ICT Holds Countermeasure Meeting with Relevant Ministries

The government has decided to expand the operation of the inter-ministerial task force (TF) currently addressing the Coupang personal information leak, with the task force now to be led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT.


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced this on December 25, sharing the results of a countermeasure meeting with relevant ministries.


The countermeasure meeting held on this day was attended by Baek Kyunghoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, as well as high-level officials at the ministerial and vice-ministerial level from the Presidential Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Fair Trade Commission, Personal Information Protection Commission, Korea Communications Commission, and Financial Services Commission.

During the meeting, participants shared the current progress, future plans, and measures to prevent secondary damages regarding the Coupang personal information leak and consumer protection.


The inter-ministerial task force, which had previously been led by Ryu Jemyung, Deputy Minister of Science and ICT, will also be expanded under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Baek.


In addition, separate from investigations and strict responses to personal information leaks by platform companies, the government will thoroughly prepare fundamental institutional improvement measures to prevent information leaks and consumer damages by platform companies that have a significant impact on people's daily lives.
