This training program, which began on December 11, was conducted over four sessions and covered topics such as the importance of the climate crisis and environmental education, theory and practice in specific fields (ecology and water environment, waste and resource circulation, carbon neutrality and energy), and field trips to basic environmental facilities. A total of 44 citizens who diligently completed the course received their certificates.
On the final day, when the completion ceremony was held, a screening of an environmental film was arranged to remind participants of the importance of protecting the environment. After watching the film, the trainees shared their thoughts and took meaningful time to consider the messages they would deliver to citizens as future environmental interpreters.
Joo Kwangdeok, Mayor of Namyangju City, attended the ceremony and personally presented certificates to the 44 graduates, commending them for their dedication and efforts.
Mayor Joo stated, "I give a big round of applause to the 44 citizen environmental interpreters who have come together as one to overcome the climate crisis. I expect that the interpreters who have completed the program today will spread the value of the environment throughout Namyangju City and play a pivotal role as 'environmental ambassadors' in building a sustainable city."
One of the graduates commented, "I found great fulfillment in learning about environmental issues in depth and experiencing them firsthand, which previously felt vague to me. I will actively participate for the future of our city."
Meanwhile, the city plans to assign the newly certified citizen environmental interpreters to various environmental education programs in the future, thereby expanding environmental education for citizens.
