Showcasing Both the World's Largest 22-Liter Engine and the 11-Liter Model
Presenting a Hydrogen Roadmap for Large Commercial Vehicles and Construction Equipment
Highlighting Technological Strength Ahead of Integrated Corporation Launch in January
HD Construction Machinery is set to unveil its 22-liter large hydrogen engine, a core achievement in its engine business and a key future growth driver, for the first time ahead of its official launch in January next year.
On December 3, HD Construction Machinery announced that it will participate in the 'World Hydrogen Expo (WHE) 2025,' which will be held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, from the 4th to the 7th. WHE 2025 is Korea's largest hydrogen industry event, featuring participation from global hydrogen companies. Starting this year, the event has expanded by integrating the 'Hydrogen International Conference' and 'H2 MEET,' and will host 250 companies from 20 countries, including the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Approximately 30,000 visitors are expected to attend during the event.

At this exhibition, HD Construction Machinery will showcase its hydrogen engine technology portfolio, covering both mobility and power generation sectors. The company will display the 11-liter hydrogen engine 'HX12' for vehicles and power generation, alongside the 22-liter large hydrogen engine 'HX22' for power generation.
In particular, the HX22 is the world's largest hydrogen engine, featuring a V-type 12-cylinder structure with a maximum output of 600kW (816 horsepower) and a continuous output of 477kW (649 horsepower). This is sufficient to meet the annual electricity demand of about 200 households. It is being developed for the 'carbon-free power generation market,' using green hydrogen and ammonia-cracked hydrogen as fuel. The engine completed its first ignition at the Gunsan plant on November 12 and has now officially entered the demonstration phase.
The 11-liter HX12 has proven its performance and durability through more than 1,500 hours of hydrogen engine generator demonstration operations and installation tests on large cargo trucks and excavators. HD Construction Machinery plans to begin mass production of the HX12 by the end of 2026, with commercialization of hydrogen engine trucks in 2027, hydrogen engine generators in 2029, and hydrogen engine excavators in 2030.
Lim Hyungtaek, Head of the Engine Business Division at HD Construction Machinery, stated, "This exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the status of our independently developed carbon-free hydrogen engine technology," adding, "We will gradually expand the application of hydrogen engines in the power generation and mobility sectors."
HD Construction Machinery will officially launch in January next year through the merger of HD Hyundai Infracore and HD Hyundai Construction Equipment. The company plans to continuously develop hydrogen engine-based carbon-free power generation solutions, hydrogen powertrains for large commercial vehicles and construction equipment, and direct-injection hydrogen engine technology, thereby contributing to the expansion of the hydrogen industry ecosystem.
