Gyeonggi Province evaluated 31 cities and counties within the province over a 22-month period from January 2024 to October 2025, assessing the overall status and policy implementation levels for improving mobility convenience for transportation disadvantaged individuals, including the operation of special transportation services and inspections of mobility facilities, to select outstanding local governments.
The evaluation covered four criteria: ▲operation status of special transportation services, ▲establishment of implementation plans for improving mobility convenience for the transportation disadvantaged, ▲inspections of mobility facilities, and ▲level of business cooperation. Based on a total score of 100 points, the cities and counties were divided into Group A and Group B according to population size.
Yangju City was recognized for its pioneering transportation welfare policies, including ▲expanding the introduction of special transportation vehicles and hiring more drivers, ▲systematic implementation of mobility facility inspections, and ▲close business cooperation with related organizations such as the Metropolitan Mobility Support Center. The city reportedly achieved excellent scores across all evaluation indicators. In particular, following its selection as an 'Excellent' institution last year, Yangju City was recognized as the 'Best' institution this year, further acknowledging its achievements.
The background behind this top honor is attributed to Yangju City's support, as well as the strong operational innovations and field-oriented efforts of 'Yangju Companion Call,' which is responsible for outsourced operations. The operation of Yangju Companion Call was also recognized externally, being selected and presented as an exemplary case among 31 cities and counties at the 'Gyeonggi-do Mobility Support Center Performance Sharing Conference' held in June.
An official from Yangju City stated, "This selection as the best institution is the result of continuous communication and efforts by the city, related organizations, and citizens to ensure safe and convenient mobility rights for the transportation disadvantaged," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a discrimination-free transportation environment and realize attentive transportation welfare that meets the expectations of our citizens."
