Open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Gochang County Health Center in North Jeolla Province is conducting a campaign to check bone health through bone density tests, as the risk of fall accidents increases during the winter season.
According to the health center on December 3, osteoporosis is a condition in which bones gradually weaken. In its early stages, there are no specific symptoms, so it is often only discovered after a fracture occurs.
In particular, falls are more frequent in winter, and even minor impacts can result in fractures. Therefore, it is important to assess your risk in advance through an accurate bone density test.
A bone density test is a basic examination to evaluate bone strength and the likelihood of fractures. It is primarily recommended for postmenopausal women and men over the age of 70. However, experts advise that regular checkups are necessary for people in their 50s and older, as bone loss tends to accelerate starting at that age.
The health center offers bone density tests from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. No reservation is required; you only need to bring your ID. The test is free for those aged 65 and older, while others are charged a fee of 8,000 won.
Yu Byungsoo, Director of the Health Center, said, "Winter is a time when the risk of falls increases, so I hope people will take the opportunity at the end of the year to check their bone health. Once bones begin to weaken, recovery is not easy, so early diagnosis and consistent management are crucial."
