Democratic Party’s Attempt to Label as Unconstitutional Fails
"Administration’s Reckless Actions Must Be Stopped"
On December 3, the People Power Party commented on the dismissal of the arrest warrant for Assemblyman Choo Kyung-ho, stating, "The judiciary has delivered a stern judgment against the administration's politically motivated 'insurrection conspiracy' campaign."
Park Sunghoon, Chief Spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement that the dismissal of the arrest warrant for Assemblyman Choo was "a reasonable decision by the judiciary to put the brakes on the Democratic Party and Lee Jaemyung administration's politically motivated 'insurrection conspiracy' campaign."
Chief Spokesperson Park stated, "For the past half year, the special prosecutor has conducted an unreasonable investigation to frame the former floor leader of the opposition party for a serious crime," adding, "With today's dismissal, it has become clear that the special prosecutor's investigation was nothing more than a 'political investigation,' a 'forced investigation,' and a 'third-rate speculative investigation based on imagination.'" He continued, "The Lee Jaemyung administration and the Democratic Party have used every possible means to impose the extreme 'insurrection' frame on Assemblyman Choo," and pointed out, "The rule of law has been shaken by Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae's blatant threats and political retaliation, such as declaring they would attack the judiciary if the warrant was dismissed, and the public's anger has already reached its limit."
Chief Spokesperson Park assessed, "Today's dismissal of the warrant is the judiciary's last conscience and a stern warning that such reckless attacks and fabricated frames will no longer work."
Earlier, the court dismissed the arrest warrant for Assemblyman Choo regarding charges of performing key duties in an insurrection. The court stated, "Given that there is room for dispute regarding the charges and legal principles in this case, it is appropriate to conduct a thorough and careful trial before making a final judgment and imposing any punishment. Considering the need for the accused to exercise his right to defense with the assistance of counsel while not in custody, as well as the accused's residence, career, progress of the investigation, attendance record, and the degree to which relevant evidence has been collected, it is difficult to conclude that there is a risk of flight or evidence destruction. Taking all these factors into account, it is hard to recognize the necessity and justification for detaining the accused."
Chief Spokesperson Park said, "The Democratic Party's sinister scheme to label the People Power Party as an unconstitutional party has collapsed," and continued, "Now, the Democratic Party and the Lee Jaemyung administration must stop threatening the judiciary and suppressing the opposition, and focus all national efforts on restoring people's livelihoods. The top priority of the nation should not be political strife or retaliation, but the lives of the people." He added, "The People Power Party will take today as a new starting point," and declared, "We will restore the rule of law that has been trampled upon and put an end to the administration's reckless actions."
