On November 27, LG Electronics announced that, following approval by the board of directors, President Ryu has been appointed as the new CEO as part of the company’s 2026 executive appointments and organizational restructuring.
The newly appointed CEO Ryu joined the home appliance research lab at Goldstar in 1989 and spent about half of his career in home appliance research and development. He is recognized as a technology-driven business leader who has led the business based on his deep understanding of technology.
Since 2021, he has served as Head of the H&A Business Division, overseeing LG’s flagship home appliance business and elevating LG’s home appliance brand to the undisputed global No. 1 position as a single brand. Going forward, CEO Ryu is expected to strengthen the company’s fundamental competitiveness and take on the critical role of spreading LG’s leading home appliance DNA throughout the entire organization.
Jo Joo-wan, who served as CEO for the past four years, has stepped down to enable a healthy generational transition.
In addition, LG Electronics has decided on promotions for a total of 34 executives, including 2 presidents, 2 executive vice presidents, 9 senior vice presidents, and 21 vice presidents (including 2 from LG Electronics India). This is a decrease from last year’s 46 promotions. The newly promoted presidents are Eun Seokhyun, Head of the VS Business Division, and Lee Jaesung, Head of the ES Business Division. The fact that both the vehicle component solutions and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) business divisions produced new presidents is seen as a sign of the company’s commitment to fostering these businesses as growth engines.
Regarding this round of appointments, LG Electronics stated, “We have streamlined similar and adjacent functional organizations to establish a more agile decision-making system in response to the rapidly changing environment,” and added, “While maintaining the existing four-business-division structure, we have strengthened responsible management centered on each division head.” The company also noted, “For businesses driving qualitative growth, such as HVAC and webOS, we have established new organizations to accelerate growth.”
