President Trump made this statement in a post on his own social networking service, Truth Social, saying, "A beast shot two National Guardsmen, leaving them in critical condition."
He added, "God bless our great National Guard and all military and law enforcement agencies," emphasizing, "They are truly great people." He continued, "As President of the United States, I stand with everyone involved in presidential duties, and with all of you!"
That afternoon, two National Guard soldiers were shot near the White House in Washington, D.C. The two soldiers, who sustained gunshot wounds, were rushed to the hospital but ultimately died. It was reported that they had been deployed to Washington, D.C. this summer for crime response and related duties. The suspect was also shot and subdued at the scene and is currently in custody at the hospital.
President Trump is currently staying in Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday.
