Transition to a Three-BU, One-SU Structure
"Maximizing Management Efficiency Through Agile Decision-Making"
On November 26, GS Retail announced that it had transitioned to a new organizational structure consisting of three Business Units (BUs) and one Support Unit (SU) through a recent reorganization. With this restructuring, the company aims to strengthen its business competitiveness by introducing data-driven work processes and improving operational efficiency.
Previously, the company operated under a two-BU system with the "Platform BU (Convenience Store & Supermarket Division)" and the "Home Shopping BU." Now, the convenience store division and the supermarket division have each been elevated to their own BU, establishing a new structure focused on three core Business Units.
GS Retail also established the Platform SU (Support Unit), which oversees support functions such as merchandising (MD), marketing, and store support for both the convenience store and supermarket businesses. Under the Platform SU, there will be the MD Headquarters, the Marketing Division, and the O4O Division. The company plans to enhance synergy between the convenience store and supermarket businesses and to improve merchandising expertise.
Within the Home Shopping BU, a new Integrated Sales Division will be created. The strategy is to further strengthen the synergy between TV and mobile platforms and maximize the sales capabilities of partner companies' products.
Additionally, to accelerate AX (Advanced Experience), the existing DX Headquarters will be renamed the AX Headquarters, with a focus on strengthening AI and infrastructure functions. A Compliance Support Office will also be established to reinforce compliance management.
A GS Retail representative stated, "This organizational restructuring is focused on strengthening business competitiveness in response to changes in the management environment, such as shifts in consumer behavior due to high inflation and high exchange rates, intensifying competition among retail formats, and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In particular, we expect that transitioning to a BU system centered on core businesses will maximize management efficiency through agile and effective decision-making."
