Krafton has decided to fully discontinue the service of its mobile game "Abyss of Dungeon," which had been in trial operation in select overseas regions ahead of its official launch.
According to the gaming industry on November 26, Krafton announced on its official website the previous day, "After careful consideration of the current state of the game and the long-term potential for a global launch, we have decided to terminate the service."
As a result, in-app purchases for "Abyss of Dungeon" have been suspended, and the service will be completely shut down as of January 21. Given that a soft launch is typically a preliminary step toward a global release, this effectively means that the official launch plan has been withdrawn.
Krafton plans to issue refunds for unused paid currency and for paid items purchased after October.
The game was originally developed under the name "Dark and Darker Mobile," based on a licensing agreement signed in 2023 with Ironmace, the developer of the PC game "Dark and Darker." Bluehole Studio, a subsidiary of Krafton, was in charge of development, but the release was postponed from its initial target of late 2024 due to quality concerns. Subsequently, the licensing agreement between the two companies ended earlier this year after about a year and six months, and the game was renamed "Abyss of Dungeon."
"Abyss of Dungeon" began its soft launch in the United States and Canada in February this year, and expanded its service to Southeast Asia and Latin America in June. However, in August, global pre-registration was abruptly halted, raising concerns about the continuation of the service.
