On November 18, an accident occurred at the Goryeong 2 Tunnel on the Jungbu Inland Expressway, resulting in a complete closure of some sections of the road.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation and other sources, three cargo trucks were involved in a series of rear-end collisions inside the Goryeong 2 Tunnel, located at the 58-kilometer point in the direction of Yangpyeong, on the Jungbu Inland Expressway that afternoon. One of the trucks was completely engulfed in flames. The truck driver who was inside the burning vehicle was reported to have died.
Immediately after the accident, smoke spread inside the tunnel and to nearby areas. The Korea Expressway Corporation closed the Goryeong 2 Tunnel section toward Yangpyeong and directed vehicles to detour via a national highway. The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause and circumstances of the accident, suspecting that the fire broke out as a result of the collision.
