Self-Developed "Angel Seat" Receives GD Certification
Safe Design Supports Up to 200kg
Recognized for Universal Design Value
Lotte Construction announced on the 17th that it had won the Bronze Prize at the 2025 Good Design Award, the most prestigious design award in Korea, for its self-developed wall-mounted foldable shower chair, the "Angel Seat." The Angel Seat was highly praised not merely as a convenience device, but as a universal design safety feature that assists people with mobility challenges throughout the home, including in bathrooms, entrances, and room doorways.
The Good Design Award is a design competition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, held annually since 1985. Products are comprehensively evaluated for their design, functionality, and economic value, and outstanding products are given the "Good Design (GD) Mark."
The Angel Seat is a foldable chair fixed to the wall, which can be folded up against the wall when not in use to save space, and unfolded as needed for sitting. It can be safely used by anyone, including elderly people, pregnant women, infants, and even healthy adults who may have difficulty moving.
It has been designed as a foldable chair to maximize space efficiency in narrow shower booths. The surface is finished with an elastomer material that prevents slipping even when wet, reducing the risk of falls. In addition, it uses an aluminum alloy bracket that is highly resistant to water and moisture, and is sturdily constructed to support up to 200 kilograms of weight.
The ideal height and size were achieved based on body dimension data for Korean citizens measured by "Size Korea," operated by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The corners are rounded to reduce the risk of injury from impact, and the pre-assembled bracket installation method improves ease of installation. The chair is also designed for easy part replacement, reducing maintenance burdens.
Lotte Construction also received the same award last year for its new floor plan and for the design of its lighting and heating control devices. This year, a total of seven products, including the Angel Seat, received the Good Design (GD) certification.
