Signing of MOU for Global Mutual Cooperation
Gyeongbuk Technopark Foundation (President Ha Inseong, Gyeongbuk TP) announced that on November 13 in Tokyo, Japan, it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Japan Association for Cellular Agriculture (JACA) to promote the Gyeongbuk Cellular Agriculture Food Regulation-Free Zone and foster global mutual cooperation.
Through this agreement, both parties pledged ongoing cooperation in a variety of activities to secure global growth momentum for the cellular agriculture industry, including: exchanging knowledge and insights on policies related to cellular agriculture foods; collaborating on academic research, educational projects, programs, and initiatives related to cellular agriculture foods; and jointly cooperating in social communication fields such as events and external public relations related to cellular agriculture foods.
As the lead agency for the “Gyeongbuk Cellular Agriculture Food Regulation-Free Zone Project,” designated last year, Gyeongbuk TP is spearheading demonstration projects and commercialization support for the practical application of cellular agriculture foods.
This collaboration with JACA is expected to accelerate the innovative growth of the regulation-free zone project by combining Japan’s advanced industrial foundation and global network.
JACA, a nonprofit think tank established in Japan in 2021 (led by Megumi Abigail Yoshitomi), plays a key role in policy development and building the industrial foundation for the commercialization of food products based on cellular agriculture technology in Japan.
In particular, JACA has more than 50 member companies, mainly food and life science enterprises in Japan and abroad, and is leading the latest global trends by collaborating with overseas cellular agriculture food startups in the United States, Singapore, Israel, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and other countries.
Ha Inseong, President of Gyeongbuk TP, stated, “This memorandum of understanding is an important milestone in establishing a new global partnership with Japan, following Singapore. Through cooperation with Japan, which is laying the foundation for the development of the cellular agriculture food industry, we will actively support the global expansion of domestic companies related to cellular agriculture foods and do our utmost to ensure that the Gyeongbuk regulation-free zone becomes a hub leading the cellular agriculture food industry not only in Asia but around the world.”
