On this day, the governor stated, "The year 2026 will be Byeong-o, the Year of the Red Horse. Just as the red horse symbolizes strong drive and burning passion, I will make it a year of bold progress and a spirit of challenge, running forward together with the county residents."
He also said, "We will swiftly complete the major projects that our county has been pursuing, and discover new growth engines so that residents can truly feel tangible changes."
Governor Kim cited the following as major achievements for 2025: ▲Yeoncheon as a transportation hub (establishing a 'Yeoncheon-Seoul 1-hour living zone' by opening Subway Line 1 and the National Road No. 3 bypass) ▲Yeoncheon as a lifelong welfare city (groundbreaking for the third National Yeoncheon Memorial Cemetery, promoting the official designation of Yeoncheon-type Educational Development Special Zone, opening the Youth AI Center and Senior Citizens Center, pushing forward the Smart Senior Center project, and expanding the Tok Bus service to Daegwang-ri Station) ▲Yeoncheon as a conservation tourism city (dramatic increase in tourists, attracting the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Training Institute, and establishing Yeoncheon as the mecca of park golf in the Seoul metropolitan area).
He then presented the following directions for county administration in 2026: ▲Early commencement of the Seoul-Yeoncheon Expressway ▲Resumption of Gyeongwon Line train operations and additional Subway Line 1 trains ▲Promotion of the national R&D hydrogen electric train demonstration project ▲Implementation of the basic income pilot project for rural and fishing villages ▲Independent development of a comprehensive funeral facility ▲Establishment of the northern campus of the Gyeonggi Fire Academy ▲Development of the Edu Healthcare Center as a cultural and sports space ▲Creation of a Green Bio Special Zone ▲Promotion of the designation of the Peace Economy Special Zone ▲Launch of the Gyeonggi Northern Agricultural R&D Center ▲Solutions for rural aging and agricultural product distribution issues ▲Strengthening competitiveness in the livestock industry ▲Establishing Yeoncheon as a leading tourism destination in Korea ▲Successful hosting of the 2029 World Paleolithic Expo ▲Creation of the World Ecological Peace Garden ▲Developing the Imjingang Pet Theme Park into the largest pet theme park in the metropolitan area ▲Transforming the Amicheon Dam into a multi-purpose dam, among others.
The total budget for Yeoncheon County next year is 737.7 billion won, an 18% increase from this year's original budget of 642.8 billion won.
Governor Kim Deokhyun said, "Although global economic uncertainty continues due to North Korea's troop dispatch to the Russia-Ukraine war, the restructuring of global supply chains, and the strengthening of protectionism, just as the saying 'piling up earth makes a great mountain' (Jeokto Seongsan) goes, let us steadily accumulate small achievements and move forward with a sense of community toward our goals of 'making Yeoncheon a place where people want to live' and 'reaching a living population of 10 million by 2030.'"
