Paju City to Boost Year-End Consumption with Consumer Support Funds
Secures 1.4 Billion Won in National Budget to Revitalize the Local Economy
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on November 14 that it will hold a consumer support event from November 17 to December 31, during which 5% of the amount spent using Paju Pay will be returned to consumers.
The city recently decided to allocate the entire 1.405 billion won in national funds it received from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, which selected local governments with outstanding local currency issuance performance for special subsidies, to this event.
Throughout 2025, Paju City has successfully achieved two goals-stimulating consumption and increasing sales for small business owners-by issuing approximately 400 billion won in local currency through the expansion of Paju Pay and the provision of livelihood stabilization support funds.
With the secured national funds, the city plans to further boost year-end consumption and ensure that Paju Pay becomes a reliable pillar of the local economy.
The consumer support event will operate by returning an additional 5% to users when they make payments with recharged Paju Pay funds.
During the event period, each individual can receive up to 20,000 won in consumer support, which is the maximum benefit for spending 400,000 won using recharged funds. The support amount is provided instantly at the time of payment without the need for a separate application, and payment details can be checked on the Gyeonggi Local Currency app. However, as the budget is limited to 1.4 billion won, the event may end earlier than scheduled if funds are exhausted.
Kim Kyeongil, Mayor of Paju, stated, "Thanks to our citizens who have consistently used Paju Pay out of love for the city, we achieved the great honor of being selected as an outstanding city or county. I hope this event, which returns the secured national funds to our citizens, will serve as a catalyst for mutual growth and revitalize the local economy at the end of the year."
