Cheongdo County, led by Governor Kim Hasu, has set the vision of "Building Public Health Together! Enjoying Healthy Cheongdo Together!" and prioritizes improving the quality of life and promoting the health of its residents above all else.
With the goal of "Achieving a Healthy 100-Year Life through Integrated Health Management," the county is implementing customized health promotion programs tailored to each stage of life, expanding the practice of healthy lifestyles, strengthening chronic disease prevention and management, and reinforcing a prevention-focused, integrated health management system.
◆ Gyeongbuk's First Public Pediatric Department in Operation
The public pediatric department, established at the public health center for the first time in North Gyeongsang Province, has entered its second year of operation and is firmly established as an essential healthcare institution in the local community.
Operating every Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the clinic provides specialized care for a wide range of pediatric conditions-including infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, and developmental disorders in infants and young children-for patients from birth to age 17.
Notably, infants and toddlers aged 0 to 2 account for more than half (approximately 50%) of all patients, playing a central role in safeguarding the health of Cheongdo's youngest residents.
The cumulative number of users has surpassed 1,700, and a veteran pediatric specialist with over 30 years of experience is in charge of consultations, leading to high satisfaction among residents.
Given the region's relatively limited medical infrastructure, the operation of a pediatric department within the public health center is regarded as a model case that has significantly contributed to improving medical equity between regions and enhancing practical healthcare welfare.
◆ Free Shingles Vaccination Program for Seniors Well Received
Since March of last year, Cheongdo County has provided free shingles vaccinations to residents aged 70 and older, and as of January 1 this year, the eligibility has been expanded to include those aged 65 and older, allowing more residents to benefit.
Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus, with incidence rates increasing with age. It can cause severe pain and complications, particularly in older adults with weakened immune systems.
Accordingly, Cheongdo County is offering free vaccinations at 16 designated medical institutions within the county to protect the health of its residents.
Eligible recipients are Cheongdo residents aged 65 or older who have been registered for at least six months and have no prior vaccination history. They must bring identification and proof of residence when visiting the clinic.
This initiative has made a significant contribution to strengthening the health safety net for seniors and improving their quality of life, earning strong support from the community.
◆ Supporting Residents' Healthy Lifestyles with ICT-Based Smart Technology
Cheongdo County is expanding ICT (Information and Communication Technology)-based health management services to all residents aged 19 and older who are interested in managing their health.
This program utilizes a mobile healthcare app and wearable devices (such as activity trackers, blood glucose meters, blood pressure monitors, and body composition analyzers) to provide personalized health information and professional consultations.
Through this initiative, any resident can easily and enjoyably practice healthy living in their daily life, and it has been evaluated as effective in preventing chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.
The Cheongdo County Public Health Center plans to continue expanding its smart healthcare environment, taking the lead in improving residents' health and quality of life.
Cheongdo County has established itself as a central institution responsible for lifelong health, from essential medical support for children and adolescents to vaccinations for seniors and ICT-based health management programs.
Going forward, the county plans to do its utmost as a reliable partner in protecting residents' health, striving to make Cheongdo a place where everyone can live happily.
