"Embarrassed by the flood of scandals"
"Kim Keonhee's bail request is 'self-contradictory'"
With the bail hearing for former President Yoon Sukyeol's wife, Kim Keonhee, approaching, Hong Joonpyo, former mayor of Daegu, criticized former President Yoon’s camp, which he had previously labeled as “Jokuk Suhong.” The term “Jokuk Suhong” refers to Hong being seen as a defender of Cho Kuk, the former emergency committee chair of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party. The nickname was given by netizens after Hong remarked during the 2021 People Power Party presidential candidate debate that “the investigation into former Justice Minister Cho Kuk was excessive.”
On the 13th, Hong stated on social media, “Back during the presidential primary in October 2021, when I said that imprisoning both Cho Kuk and his wife was an excessively harsh investigation that defied common sense about family crimes, Yoon Sukyeol’s camp criticized me as ‘Jokuk Suhong’.”
Hong also continued his criticism of Kim Keonhee, who is currently undergoing a bail hearing. Bail is a legal process that allows a detained defendant to be released upon payment of a certain bond, suspending the execution of detention. If the court grants bail, the defendant can stand trial without being held in custody. Kim’s legal team filed for bail on the 3rd, citing her deteriorating health, including dizziness and anxiety symptoms.
Hong remarked, “Now, with Kim Keonhee applying for bail and claiming that imprisoning both spouses is unjust, isn’t this self-contradictory?” He added, “The crimes committed by Yoon Sukyeol and his wife are not family crimes, but crimes against the nation. They have brought this upon themselves. The flood of scandals and corruption is so shameful that I cannot even lift my head.”
