Camp Stanley in Uijeongbu to Create Youth Jobs as an IT Cluster
Development Plans for Camp Stanley and CRC Finalized... Restructured Around IT
Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced on November 13 that a new direction for the development of returned U.S. military bases has been established following the final confirmation of the amendment to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Comprehensive Development Plan for Areas Surrounding U.S. Military Bases in Korea."
With this amendment, the development plan for Camp Stanley will shift from the originally planned "e-commerce logistics complex project" to the "IT cluster development project," paving the way for attracting cutting-edge companies focused on future industries.
Through this initiative, the city aims to create an innovative industrial ecosystem based on information technology (IT) that leads the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, while simultaneously creating jobs for young people and revitalizing the local economy.
As the e-commerce logistics complex project for the Camp Red Cloud (CRC) site has been scrapped, the city plans to develop a new space centered on this site that incorporates Uijeongbu's mid- to long-term future development strategy and to establish a blueprint for its growth.
Mayor Kim Donggeun stated, "The confirmation of this comprehensive development plan amendment marks an important turning point for Uijeongbu as it moves toward becoming a future-oriented self-sustaining city where advanced industries and innovative technologies coexist. We will make Camp Stanley and the Red Cloud site core hubs for preparing for Uijeongbu's next 100 years, and draw up a blueprint for urban growth that all citizens can experience."
The city plans to use this plan amendment as an opportunity to further detail the step-by-step development roadmap for returned U.S. military sites and to continuously identify strategic projects that promote balanced regional development and secure future growth engines.
