People Power Party Pressures Supreme Prosecutors' Office: "Impeach Lee Jaemyung Through Parliamentary Investigation and Special Prosecutor"

On November 10, the People Power Party visited the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in protest against the decision to forgo an appeal in the Daejang-dong case, intensifying its public campaign by denouncing the prosecution's leadership. The party has also been increasing pressure by repeatedly raising the possibility of impeaching President Lee Jaemyung.

Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party, launched a fierce attack at an emergency rally held in front of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, stating, "The true mastermind behind the decision to abandon the appeal in the Daejang-dong case is President Lee Jaemyung, who confidently declared, 'I designed Daejang-dong.'"

He raised his voice, saying, "After making Lee Jaemyung, a criminal, the president, the criminal and his followers have turned the Republic of Korea into a nation of criminals. They have ushered in an era of criminal sovereignty."

Targeting President Lee, he added, "Even the first trial's judgment mentions the 'top officials of Seongnam City.' We know that among the enormous 780 billion won in illicit funds amassed by Kim Manbae and the Daejang-dong group, there is a share for 'that person' in Daejang-dong."

He went on to repeatedly call for the immediate resignation of Norman Seok, Acting Prosecutor General. Song criticized harshly, saying, "The one who nailed shut the prosecution's coffin is the cowardly and servile acting Prosecutor General. He simply lay down before the winds of power."

Regarding Norman Seok's explanation that the decision to forgo the appeal in the Daejang-dong case was made because "the relationship with Yongsan and the Ministry of Justice had to be considered," Song directly criticized, asking, "Is the Prosecutor General an investigative agency or a political institution?" and added, "In order to curry favor with Yongsan and the Ministry of Justice, he sold out the 70-year pride of the prosecution to the petty criminals of the Daejang-dong group."

He also rebuked the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "You are branding the entire prosecution as a group of criminals. Is the ruling party acting as the defense attorney for the Daejang-dong group?"

Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, stated, "Things that should never happen in the Republic of Korea are happening now, and it is solely because Lee Jaemyung is sitting in the president's seat. Everything is because of President Lee."

He emphasized, "We must impeach Lee Jaemyung through a parliamentary investigation and a special prosecutor. The court must immediately resume the trial against Lee Jaemyung. That is the only way to save the Republic of Korea."

After the rally, lawmakers attempted to enter the Supreme Prosecutors' Office building, but were blocked by staff and could not get inside. In response, lawmakers protested fiercely, shouting, "This will go down in history as 'Norman Seok's Rebellion,'" "Did you cancel the appeal even though you don't have the courage to open the door?" and "Did the Minister of Justice really instruct you to review this carefully?"

The lawmakers and building staff argued for about 20 minutes with a revolving door between them. Song Eonseok told reporters, "Acting Prosecutor General Norman Seok reportedly took annual leave and did not come to work. Perhaps he was so ashamed that he couldn't even show up." He added, "We requested a meeting with the head of the anti-corruption division in charge, but he has refused to comply until the end, saying he cannot meet. The prosecution is already dead."

Later that afternoon, the People Power Party planned to visit the Ministry of Justice in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, to continue criticizing the prosecution's decision to abandon the appeal. The party is also considering holding a large-scale protest rally with party members on November 12.
