Forum Theme: "Rethinking Capitalism"

According to the business community on November 11, Chairman Choi will attend the "Tokyo Forum 2025," which will be held under the theme "Rethinking Capitalism" at Yasuda Auditorium at the University of Tokyo on November 21. The Tokyo Forum is an international event co-hosted by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies and the University of Tokyo since 2019. This year’s forum, which will run for two days until November 22, will feature dozens of speakers and panelists, including Chairman Choi, business leaders, and academics.
Chairman Choi will deliver the opening address, where he is expected to highlight issues such as inequality, sustainability, and technological transformation facing capitalism, and propose a new economic paradigm centered on "solidarity."
For several years, Chairman Choi has emphasized the importance of economic cooperation between Korea and Japan, expressing the view that a collaborative framework similar to the European Union's economic community is necessary. Given that this year’s forum sub-theme is "Varieties, Contradictions, and Futures," Chairman Choi is expected to stress practical solutions to capitalism’s contradictions, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Chairman Choi has previously identified AI and semiconductors as key areas with significant potential for Korea-Japan economic partnership. SK is currently in discussions with Japan’s NTT regarding the development of semiconductor technologies.
On the same day, Chairman Choi will also participate in a business leader session alongside Teruo Fujii, President of the University of Tokyo, and Mutsuo Iwai, Senior Vice Chairman of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives. The session will be moderated by Park Cheolhee, Special Advisor at the Japan Foundation (former Ambassador to Japan).
At last year’s Tokyo Forum, Chairman Choi remarked, "Now, everyone is talking about AI," adding, "We have always faced significant challenges in adding and embracing new businesses, but with the help of design thinking, we have managed our businesses successfully and created synergies."
