Gyeonggi Province Begins Maintenance of 4.5 km Section of Munsancheon Stream in Paju
River Development Fully Funded by Provincial Budget... Completion Targeted for 2028
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it will launch the "Paju Munsancheon Local Stream Maintenance Project" to strengthen flood response capabilities for Munsancheon Stream in Paju City.
The maintenance project will be carried out along a 4.5-kilometer section of the stream in Majang-ri, Gwangtan-myeon, Paju City. The project includes 5.3 kilometers of embankment construction, 3.8 kilometers of embankment reinforcement, and the installation of five bridges.
The total project cost is 49.5 billion won, funded by the province. This includes 38.2 billion won for construction, 3 billion won for supervision, 7.6 billion won for compensation, and 700 million won for design and other expenses. The construction is scheduled for completion by October 2028.
The Munsancheon Stream maintenance project began with the implementation design service and environmental impact assessment consultations in 2018, followed by value engineering (VE) advisory and review by the Gyeonggi Province Construction Technology Review Committee in 2020. In December 2021, the river construction implementation plan was officially announced, initiating the compensation negotiation process and laying the groundwork for the full-scale project.
Kang Seongsup, Director of Construction for Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this maintenance project, the risk of flooding in Munsancheon Stream during heavy rainfall will be greatly reduced, contributing to the safety and quality of life for local residents. We will work closely with Paju City and the local community to ensure the smooth progress of the project."
Upon completion of this maintenance project, Gyeonggi Province plans to enhance the flood control capacity and stability of the 4.5-kilometer section of Munsancheon Stream, creating an eco-friendly and safe river space that will provide a secure environment for citizens to use with confidence.
