Achieves Top Domestic Financial Institution and Highest 'AAA' Rating for Two Consecutive Years
Hana Financial Group announced on November 9 that it has received the highest 'AAA' rating for the second consecutive year in the 2025 ESG assessment released by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), a global ESG rating agency.
The MSCI ESG assessment is a global evaluation that measures corporate sustainability and provides valuable information to investors. It is recognized as one of the most authoritative global rating agencies by investors worldwide. Each year, it assesses the ESG management status of approximately 8,500 listed companies around the world, assigning ratings across seven levels from AAA to CCC.
At the end of October this year, Hana Financial Group achieved the top spot among domestic financial companies for the second consecutive year out of 576 banks assessed in the MSCI ESG banking industry evaluation, and also recorded the highest 'AAA' rating for two consecutive years, earning high marks for its ESG-focused management.
In particular, this year's evaluation recognized Hana Financial Group for its excellence in governance, including enhancing board independence and transparency, proactively improving employee welfare and organizational culture, and practicing ethical management. In addition, the group received top-tier global ratings for its consumer-centric policy operations and for strengthening its climate risk assessment and management systems, among other areas.
A Hana Financial Group representative stated, "Achieving the AAA rating for two consecutive years from MSCI, a globally respected institution, is the result of our consistent and genuine ESG management activities that create diverse social value and foster the growth of customers, employees, shareholders, and local communities together. We will continue to fulfill our role and responsibility as a global ESG leader, actively practicing finance that grows with and shares happiness with various stakeholders."
Hana Financial Group established a dedicated sustainability management body in 2021 and formulated a mid- to long-term ESG strategy to accelerate ESG-centered management. Based on this, it has selected and is implementing nine key tasks.
In particular, to contribute to global carbon neutrality and lead the transition to a low-carbon economy, the group is pursuing the '2030 & 60' initiative, which aims to provide 60 trillion won in loans, investments, and funding for green and sustainable sectors by 2030, as well as achieving zero carbon emissions at its business sites by 2050, among other efforts.
Additionally, Hana Financial Group has been included in the highest 'DJSI World Index' for three consecutive years in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) assessment, and has also received the top 'A' rating in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) evaluation.
