The Department of Nursing at Daejin University (headed by Kim Sunghui) held the "11th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony" on the 6th at the International Conference Hall on the 6th floor of the Central Library, celebrating the start of clinical practice for 75 second-year nursing students.
The event was attended by President Jang Seokhwan, Kim Jeongmi, President of the Gyeonggi-do Nurses Association, Bae Jongok, Director of Nursing at Bundang Jesaeng Hospital, as well as other distinguished guests, parents, and alumni. After completing two years of basic nursing education on campus, the students pledged their commitment to the mission and ethics of nursing before entering clinical settings, vowing to "dedicate themselves to the promotion of human health."
The ceremony included the candle-lighting ritual, the Nightingale Pledge, words of encouragement and congratulatory speeches, a celebratory performance by current students, and the presentation of gifts. When the lights were dimmed and the candles were lit, the students recited their pledge in unison, receiving enthusiastic applause from the attendees.
In his address, President Jang Seokhwan stated, "Nursing is not just a job, but an expression of responsibility and dedication to human life," and added, "I hope that, through this pledge, Daejin University nursing students will grow into nursing professionals recognized anywhere in the world."
The event also featured celebratory songs and performances by first- and third-year nursing students, the "Young Nightingale" candle-lighting ceremony by an alumnus, and the presentation of gifts by the student council, further fostering connections between students and alumni.
Kim Sunghui, Head of the Department of Nursing, remarked, "The Nightingale Pledge Ceremony is a symbolic event that helps students establish their identity and ethical awareness as nurses," and added, "Daejin University's Department of Nursing will continue to strengthen practice-oriented and character education to nurture nursing professionals trusted by patients."
