According to the county on November 7, this year’s public reserve rice purchase began in Beonam-myeon on November 6 and will proceed according to the schedule for each township: Janggae-myeon and Gyebuk-myeon (November 11), Cheoncheon-myeon (November 12), Gyenam-myeon (November 13-14), Jangsu-eup (November 14), and Sanseo-myeon (November 24-December 3).

The county plans to support stable rice sales for local farmers through this purchase, strengthen the foundation for high-quality rice production, and contribute to increasing farm income.

This year, the county’s total public reserve rice purchase volume is 3,851 tons, including 1,981 tons of dried paddy and 1,870 tons of freshly harvested paddy. The two varieties being purchased are ‘Shindongjin’ and ‘Haedamssal’.

To help stabilize farm management, the county will provide an interim payment of 40,000 won per 40 kilograms first. The final settlement will reflect the rice price during the harvest season (October to December) and will be confirmed and paid out next month.

However, if a farmer delivers rice of a variety other than those designated for purchase, they will be excluded from the public reserve rice purchase program for the next five years. Therefore, farmers participating in the program must ensure that only the designated varieties are delivered and take care not to ship other varieties.

Choi Hunsik, the county governor, stated, “The public reserve rice purchase is a fair reward for the hard work of farmers throughout the year and is an important system for the sustainable development of local agriculture. We will strive to ensure income stability for farmers and produce trusted Jangsu rice through thorough quality control and fair inspections.”
