"Gapyeong Is Truly Amazing" ? Soldiers Enthusiastically Embrace Local Attractions
"I want to come back here with my girlfriend on my next leave." "I had no idea there was such a great place near the military base."
The scene at the "2025 Model Soldier Local Tourist Site Tour" organized by Gapyeong County on November 6 was filled with bright smiles and lively energy. A total of 120 exemplary soldiers from local military units spent a short but meaningful day touring Gapyeong’s major tourist attractions.

This event was designed to give local soldiers the opportunity to experience Gapyeong’s key tourist destinations firsthand and to promote Gapyeong as a place they would want to revisit during their leave or time off. It also served as an expression of gratitude for the soldiers’ active assistance in the flood recovery efforts following the heavy rainfall that caused significant damage in Gapyeong County in July.
Gapyeong County has been operating the Model Soldier Local Tourist Site Tour program since last year. This year, the event was held twice, once in June and again this November. The spring event also saw the participation of 106 soldiers, receiving an enthusiastic response.
This tour included 68 soldiers from the Capital Mechanized Infantry Division, 30 from the 66th Infantry Division, 14 from the 3rd Transportation Regiment, and 8 from the 19th Maintenance Battalion, totaling 120 participants. Their day began with a busking performance at "Cafe Golden Tree" in Gapyeong-eup, followed by a rail bike experience and visits to Petite France and Italian Village in Cheongpyeong-myeon, allowing them to enjoy some of Gapyeong’s most popular tourist spots.
A Gapyeong County official stated, "I believe this tour provided the soldiers with an opportunity to experience and appreciate Gapyeong’s diverse tourism resources firsthand," adding, "We will continue to strengthen synergy in local tourism through ongoing cooperation with military units."
Gapyeong County plans to further enhance exchanges between soldiers and the local community, continuing to pursue a collaborative model in which both the military and the region grow together.
