Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr) has explained why he did not attend the funeral of his Portugal national team colleague, Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident last July.
On November 7 (local time), during the YouTube talk show "Piers Morgan Uncensored," Ronaldo said, "Many people criticize me for not attending Jota's funeral, but I don't care," adding, "If your conscience is clear and you are free, you don't need to worry about what others say."
Last July, Jota passed away in a tragic car accident. At the time, Ronaldo posted a photo of Jota on his social media with the message, "This can't be true. We were just playing together for the national team not long ago."
However, Ronaldo did not appear at Jota's funeral, which led to a wave of criticism from the public.
Recalling the time when Jota passed away, Ronaldo said, "I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. I cried a lot," and added, "Even now, every time I put on the national team jersey, I still feel the shock." He also confessed that after his own father passed away, he never visited his father's grave again. "Anyone who knows me is well aware of my fame," he said. "Wherever I go, it turns into a circus."
Because whenever Ronaldo moves, all attention is focused on him. He explained, "I didn't want that kind of attention at Jota's funeral." He continued, "Not attending the funeral was an action for Jota and his family," and added, "People can keep criticizing me, but I am satisfied with my decision."
