The meeting was attended by Mayor Won Kangsu, city council members, expert committee members, and representatives from related organizations. During the session, the development plan and detailed implementation strategies for the advanced medical complex were presented, and Wonju's vision and goals as a leading city in medical devices were outlined.
This research project was conducted over six months, from April to October, in response to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's ongoing "Study on the Need for Additional Designation of Advanced Medical Complexes."
The research concluded that Wonju's unique model should be a "locally integrated advanced medical complex centered on medical devices incorporating artificial intelligence (AI)." This model is designed to differentiate Wonju from existing advanced medical complexes by leveraging a specialized strategy, absorbing the medical device infrastructure of the Seoul metropolitan area, and establishing a full-cycle support system for companies in Wonju, from technology development to commercialization.
Meanwhile, a performance expressing the city's aspiration to attract the advanced medical complex was also held during the final presentation. Under the slogans "Advanced Medical Complex to Wonju!" and "Everyone's Wish, Attract the Advanced Medical Complex to Wonju," all participants reaffirmed their unified commitment to bringing the complex to the city.
Mayor Won Kangsu stated, "We will transform Wonju into a new hub for medical devices integrating artificial intelligence and digital healthcare, and into a global center for medical devices. Based on the results of this research, we will actively recommend to the Ministry of Health and Welfare that Wonju be additionally designated as an advanced medical complex, marking the first step toward this goal."
