Genesis Championship Opens at Woojeong Hills in Cheonan
First Domestic Appearance Since Woori Financial Championship in April
Claimed First KPGA Tour Victory at This Tournament in 2019
Sungjae Im, who competes on the PGA Tour, will return to the domestic stage for the first time in six months.
Starting on October 23, he will participate in the Genesis Championship (total prize money of 4 million dollars), co-hosted by the Korea Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Tour and the DP World Tour, held over four days at Woojeong Hills Country Club (par 71, 7,367 yards) in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
This tournament will feature the top 36 players from the KPGA Tour Genesis Points standings and 90 top-ranked players from the DP World Tour. Among men's professional golf tournaments held in Korea, this event offers the largest total prize pool. The winner's prize is 680,000 dollars (approximately 960 million won).
Sungjae Im has already secured two career victories on the PGA Tour. He is ranked 35th in the world, the highest among Korean players. This will be his first domestic tournament in six months, following the KPGA Tour Woori Financial Championship in April. On the domestic tour, he has collected three career wins, including back-to-back victories at the Woori Financial Championship.
Sungjae Im has a special connection with this tournament, having claimed his first KPGA Tour victory here in 2019. Ahead of this year's event, he finished tied for seventh at the Asian Tour SJM Macau Open (total prize money of 1 million dollars), held on October 19 at Macau Golf & Country Club (par 70) in Macau, China. Im expressed his determination, stating, "The Genesis Championship is a tournament with many good memories for me. I want to achieve a strong result again this year."
