Jeonju Establishes Itself as a Hub for Tourism and Sports

The "2025 Jeonju Drone Soccer World Cup (FIDA World Cup Jeonju 2025)," hosted by Jeonju City, North Jeolla Province, over four days from the 25th to the 28th at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium area, concluded successfully.


According to the city on the 29th, the tournament brought together teams from 33 countries, including national drone soccer teams from 23 countries, to the birthplace of drone soccer, Jeonju. The intense matches demonstrated that drone soccer, which began in Jeonju, has firmly established itself as a new global sport enjoyed by people around the world.

In fact, the opening ceremony drew 15,000 attendees, and the awards ceremony attracted 5,000, with a total of around 20,000 people participating in official events alone.


During the tournament, national team matches and club competitions showcased the high-level strategies and teamwork of each country's athletes, vividly conveying the excitement of drone soccer to spectators.


Additionally, Cracing and the Super Pilot Competition, both introduced for the first time at this World Cup, instantly captivated the audience and received enthusiastic applause.


In line with the event's theme as a "Global Drone Festival," the World Cup featured not only drone sports competitions but also a variety of related events, including drone industry exhibitions and local cultural and arts performances. These offerings provided both spectators and participants with a rich array of experiences and attractions.


Specifically, the "International Drone Industry Symposium" held at Jeonju The May Hotel brought together drone experts and other attendees to share the latest trends and strategies in the global drone industry. The symposium also discussed the future of the industry by presenting strategic visions through localization policies and commercialization case studies.


Furthermore, a diverse range of cultural, tourism, and artistic events representing Jeonju were held, such as the street theater festival "Nosangnoriya," Joseon Pop performances, CLUB THE 8 DRONE, hands-on craft experiences with local artisans, and performances by the Jeonju City Traditional Music Orchestra, offering visitors a wide variety of experiences and enjoyment.


In addition, the World Cup hosted the "2025 Buy Jeonju GOGO Festival," which promoted and exhibited outstanding local products, as well as the "Together Market for Chuseok," part of Jeonju City's project to boost the local economy.


Through this event, the city aimed not only to reinforce Jeonju’s status as the birthplace of drone soccer on the global stage but also to showcase the city’s diverse appeal-spanning industry, sports, culture, and tourism-positioning Jeonju as a future capital of drone leisure sports.


In the first-ever Drone Soccer World Cup, the national teams of South Korea (Class 40) and Japan (Class 20) claimed the top spots in the national team competition among 23 countries, thanks to their meticulous strategies and flawless teamwork. In the club competition finals, the South Korean teams "Griffin" (Class 40) and "Little Griffin" (Class 20) lifted the championship trophies, demonstrating experienced match management and strong organizational skills.


In the Cracing event (demonstration sport), where teams compete by colliding drones, the Taiwanese national team secured victory with quick decision-making and unwavering focus. In the Super Pilot Competition, which determines the world’s best drone pilot, competitors from around the globe engaged in a tense contest, with Hwang Geonwoo of South Korea ultimately winning the title of "World’s Best Drone Pilot."


Mayor Woo Beomgi stated, "The 2025 Jeonju Drone Soccer World Cup was a meaningful event that confirmed Jeonju’s position at the center of global drone sports," adding, "We will continue to do our best to ensure Jeonju develops as a global city where industry, sports, and culture grow in harmony."
