Jung Chungrae Orders "Support Measures" for National Information Resources Fire... Jang Donghyuk Calls It "Clear Human Error"

On September 27, Democratic Party leader Jung Chungrae instructed the party to devise support measures in response to the fire incident at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon, according to the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party conveyed this through a press release on the same day. Jung also stated on his Facebook page, "I have instructed the Secretary-General and the Administrative and Security Committee secretary to closely coordinate party-level support measures so that the government can establish thorough countermeasures," adding, "We will do our utmost to restore normal operations as soon as possible."

Han Jeongae, the Democratic Party's Policy Committee Chair, also posted on Facebook, saying, "The Democratic Party will closely monitor the situation to ensure the government concentrates on comprehensive countermeasures, and we will review support measures at the party level."

The opposition People Power Party criticized the incident as "a clear case of human error," emphasizing the need to identify the cause and hold those responsible accountable. Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day, stating, "It is regrettable that a foreseeable disaster could not be prevented," and pointed out, "We could have learned and prepared for such incidents from the Kakao service outage." He further noted, "When establishing a system that serves as the heart and main artery of the national information network, it is fundamental to ensure that if operations are halted due to fire or other reasons, the system is designed so that failures do not cascade to other systems."

Jang added, "We already experienced this with the private sector service outage and discussed the need for a disaster recovery system for the national information network, but since that was not implemented, we have now reached this situation. We must reconsider whether we can truly call ourselves an IT powerhouse."

Spokesperson Jo Yongsul stated in a commentary, "This incident is not simply a fire, but a clear case of human error caused by poor management of the government's information network," criticizing, "The complete shutdown of core national services is an irresponsible result of the government neglecting public safety." He continued, "The People Power Party will thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident and push for a comprehensive overhaul of disaster response manuals," adding, "Above all, we will hold those responsible strictly accountable for the recurring collapses of the information network."
