On September 10, Jindo County in South Jeolla Province announced that it is recruiting tenants for rental housing aimed at city residents who wish to return to farming, fishing, and rural living. This initiative is designed to alleviate the financial burden on those relocating to rural areas and to support their stable settlement.

The rental housing consists of a total of four units: two units under the "Vacant House Remodeling Project" and two units under the "Jeonnam-Type 10,000 Won Second House Support Project." Selected tenants can reside for two years with a security deposit of 2.4 million won and a monthly rent of 10,000 won.

Eligible applicants are those who, as of September 9, have been registered residents outside of South Jeolla Province for at least one year and plan to move to Jindo County to start a new life in farming or fishing. Applications are being accepted until September 22, and can be submitted in person, via email, or by mail.

Tenants will be selected through a comprehensive process, including a document review that considers factors such as age, household size, and completion of agricultural or fishing training programs, as well as an interview that assesses motivation, willingness to settle, and potential for integration into the rural community. A county official stated, "This rental housing project offers a reliable home for those returning to farming and fishing, supporting a fresh start on the treasured island of Jindo."

In addition to the rental housing initiative, the county operates various support programs, including subsidies for farmhouse repairs, relocation costs, and agricultural and fishing materials, as well as loans for start-ups and home purchases for returnees. The county also supports settlement exploration through seven "Returnee Houses."
